Karate classes are the new activity we have added to the Project for the Empowerment of Women
Designed for the girls both in our Akshay school and those studying secondary plus a few from our ABC Project too. At the present time we have 50 girls registered

As an extra-school activity, the karate classes take place twice a week with a teacher thanks to the collaboration of Sonne-International which introduced this project in other schools some two years ago

We constantly hear on the news of the lack of safety for women in India. Our girls often tell us how uncomfortable they feel when bothered by the boys. Such situations cause the girls to be afraid even to the point in some cases of girl students putting an end to their studies when they have to walk some distance, so causing worry, anxiety and fear.

Martial arts give the women the opportunity to develop their mental and physical aptitudes for defending themselves from potential attackers. The benefits they will gain from learning karate are many: they will learn how to react in a given situation of violence and also know what to do if attacked. They learn to see potentially dangerous situations before they arise. This will give them self-confidence as well as helping them to trust in their own intuition. Relaxation, mental control, concentration, agility, physical strength and respect for others are also part of the benefits of practising karate.
