In the villages where we work a shortage of water is very common and when they do have some, it is often contaminated. Both factors are crucial in the gastro-intestinal problems suffered not only by the children but by all the population. To give an idea of the shortage of water resources, it can be noted that in many villages they have to share a pump among more than 200 inhabitants. Besides building water pumps in rural villages in the area, we teach the people to take care of their maintenance. We want them to have clean water for drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, etc. and so avoid illnesses and gastro-intestinal problems both in the children and the adults.
